Siemens Energy 3AP1 DT 72.5 kV SF6 Dead Tank Circuit Breakers | Unused Surplus, IEC 62271-100 Design (Qty 3)
New 72.5 kV breakers carry long OEM lead times. These three are in stock and can ship without the wait.
The units are Siemens Energy 3AP1 DT 72.5 kV SF6 dead tank circuit breakers, built to an IEC 62271-100 design. IEEE/ANSI (C37.04, C37.06, C37.09) type-test coverage for this design has not been confirmed by Siemens Energy in writing and is not represented. Read the design standard section below before specifying these units into a U.S. utility application. Each is an outdoor, SF6-insulated, three-pole gang-operated breaker rated 2000A continuous, 40kA short-circuit, with a 325 kV BIL and a spring operating mechanism. They have never been energized or placed in service.
CTG is the seller of record. The units are sold as unused surplus on an as-is, where-is, with-all-faults basis.

Design standard: what U.S. buyers should know
These units carry a 72.5 kV nameplate, which is a standard IEC rated maximum voltage and also the maximum design voltage of the 69 kV ANSI class. The nameplate alone does not tell you which standard the design was type tested to. The differences live in the ratings behind it, and they matter for a U.S. utility specification:
- Insulation level. These units are rated 325 kV BIL, the common IEC level for 72.5 kV. The ANSI 69 kV class is customarily specified at 350 kV BIL. Where your specification calls for 350 kV, these units do not meet it.
- Operating sequence and interrupting time. Stated to IEC convention (O-0.3s-CO-15s-CO, milliseconds). IEC and ANSI duty cycles are not interchangeable by conversion.
- Transient recovery voltage. TRV envelopes and test-duty definitions follow IEC 62271-100.
- Bushing current transformers, control wiring, and nameplate conventions. Built to the OEM's IEC-market practice. Confirm CT accuracy classes and ratios against your protection scheme (U.S. relay coordination is typically built around IEEE C57.13 C-class CTs) and confirm wiring and terminal designations against your integration standards.
- Seismic. Qualified to AF5 (0.5g) on the OEM drawings. IEEE 693 qualification is not represented.
- No path to IEEE recertification. Type-test certification attaches to the design, not the serial number. Individual units cannot be tested into IEEE conformity after the fact.
